The biggest advantage of the Gamma X-6 tennis stringing machine is its price. If you are looking for a quality tennis stringing machine at an entry level price then this is the stringing machine for you. It’s a drop weight machine which gives you accurate tensioning. Being a table top stringer it is also portable. Let’s take a look at what else it offers.
At the time of writing, the Gamma X-6 was cheaper at the Do It Tennis store rather than Amazon. But if you want to check the price on Amazon now, click here.

As well as being a good price, I should also mention that the Gamma X-6 uses a 6 point mounting system which is far superior to a two point system with equivalent mounts, therefore, you are getting a very good tennis stringing machine at an affordable price.
A tennis stringing machine with a two point mounting system does not hold the frame in place as securely as a 6 point system which means it is susceptible to distortion. Obviously there is greater risk of damaging your racket but it is also more difficult to get the correct tension as you are stringing your racket.
Of course, the mounts vary from one machine to another. And some 2-mount systems are superior to other 2-mounts. But, if you need to string an oversized racket you’re usually better doing it with more than 2 mounts for extra support.
The Gamma X-6 uses a patented diamond coated ratchet gripper for accurate tensioning.
Does this stringing machine include a tools drawer?
This stringing machine is built from a strong yet light-weight aluminum base with a built-in tool tray and a drawer. It is a solid build, drop weight stringing machine with a 5 year manufacturer’s warranty.
The advantage of the Gamma X-6 stringing machine over the Gamma Progression II 602 is that it has a drawer in addition to the tool tray (the Gamma Progression II 602 only has the tool tray in its red base). The drawer in the blue base of the Gamma X-6 stringing machine is very handy for storing tools.
The Gamma X-6 tennis stringing machine is a great entry level stringing machine. If you are a keen social tennis player or even an aspiring younger player then this stringing machine offers some great features. It uses a drop weight tensioning mechanism which offers greater accuracy than a winder stringing machine. The tensioning capacity is 8 to 90 pounds (4 to 41 kilos).
Does this come with a stand?
This tennis stringing machine is a table top model but there is a floor stand available if you need one. However, the stand has to be ordered separately as it does not come as a standard feature.
As mentioned above, the Gamma X-6 tennis stringing machine provides a 6 point quick mount support system. The advantage of 6 point mounting over 2 or 4 point is that it provides greater support on the shoulders of the tennis racket therefore preventing distortion when tensioning the strings. The result is more accurate tensioning throughout the string bed.
The Gamma X-6 comes with 2 composite floating clamps and free bonusl tools (pathfinder awl, awl, pliers & razor cutter). If you are interested in a fixed clamp tennis stringing machine the next model up is the Gamma X-6FC.
Does the Gamma X-6 come with a cover?
There is a cover available for this Gamma stringer but it’s not included in the initial purchase of the Gamma X-6. If you know you get lots of dust in your home, I’d order the cover. It’s no fun stringing on a machine covered in dust.
Overall, the Gamma X-6 tennis stringing machine is a great value machine with high quality features. It will certainly pay for itself very quickly in the savings you make from stringing your own racquets.

The Gamma Progression II 602 tennis stringing machine is very similar to the Gamma X-6 tennis stringing machine. It is a drop weight, 6 point mounting, floating clamps tennis stringing machine.
It is a good entry level stringing machine providing high quality for a reasonable price.
The main difference between the Gamma Progression II 602 and the Gamma X-6 is in the base of each machine. The red base of the Gamma Progression II 602 has a tool tray whereas the blue base of the Gamma X-6 has both a tool tray and a drawer.
If this is your first tennis stringing machine and price is a big consideration then you can save around $20 by buying the Gamma Progression II 602.
However, you should think about where you are going to be stringing your rackets. This is because the extra drawer in the base of the Gamma X-6 is very handy for storage. You can store your stringing tools in the drawer if you need to move the stringing machine from one location to another.
And it may be worth spending the extra $20 on the Gamma X-6 just for the convenience of storing your tools even though you will only be moving the stringing machine from one room to another. If it saves you dropping a pair of pliers on your foot even once it is worth it. It not only saves you from injury but saves you the cost of needing to replace your bent pliers.
Does the Gamma Progression II 602 come with a cover or stand?
No, you won’t get the stand or a cover with the initial purchase of the stringing machine. This is a table top machine.
However, they can be bought separately. See the link above (you can use the same ones on either the Gamma X-6 or the Gamma Progression II 602).
